About

Nitrous oxide sedation properly administered to the conscious patient provides an important adjunctive aid to the management of the apprehensive patient. This course is designed to prepare the Dental Assistant to monitor nitrous oxide psychosedation confidently in the office environment. The didactic and clinical instruction will give the Dental Assistant a step-by-step procedural approach for the control of anxiety in the conscious patient. The structure of the program will follow the guidelines for an approved office inhalation analgesia course as required by Tennessee Board of Dentistry. This course is intended to involve six (6) hours of lecture/online study. A comprehensive final examination is administered to the students who complete this course. A 75% score is required on the final examination in order to obtain certification for Monitoring Nitrous Oxide. Clinical experience is not required due to Tennessee Board of Dentistry restriction for dental assistant to legally administer nitrous oxide-oxygen analgesia. You will be allowed eight (8) weeks to complete this course and exam for credit.
